Austria Center Vienna: award-winning connectivity

During major international events the Austria Center Vienna’s wireless network experiences the kind of loads only otherwise seen in major urban centres, such as London. The high-availability WLAN infrastructure at the centre has therefore earned it the INCON Digital Infrastructure Award 2016.

“Each year the INCON Digital Infrastructure Award is given in recognition of exceptionally innovative digital infrastructure at leading congress centres and convention hotels. In 2016 the Austria Center Vienna was the strongest candidate by a considerable margin,” said Roslyn McLeod, jury chair and co-chair of INCON as she praised Austria’s largest congress and event centre.

“Their system allows users to simply log in, start networking or work as if they were in their own home or office. The WiFi works for 35,000 simultaneous connections from multiple devices,” McLeod confirmed.

Susanne Baumann-Söllner, Managing Director of the Austria Center Vienna expanded on the significance of the award: “I’m very pleased that our efforts of the past few years are now clearly bearing fruit. We have concentrated on offering customers exceptional quality across the board, with a wide selection of excellently equipped event spaces, a dedicated team and perfect IT infrastructure. So winning the Digital Infrastructure Award is a success that also demonstrates the excellent reputation of the Austria Center Vienna when it comes to digital infrastructure at large-scale national and international conferences.

The Austria Center Vienna is the country’s largest conference centre with a total capacity for 20,000 delegates and is one of the top players on the international conference circuit.

“Our new strategy, which puts the focus firmly on large international congresses and international corporate events, is paying dividends. Austria as a whole is benefiting from the increase in delegates from abroad coming to Vienna: in 2016 we are expecting 91,000 international visitors,” Baumann-Söllner explained.

Over recent years the Austria Center Vienna has invested heavily in its IT infrastructure to facilitate optimal networking among participants and support paperless congresses, live HD streaming and hybrid meeting formats.
