In June 1993, Dr Ir Haji Mohd Abdul Karim Bin Abdullah, an experienced and qualified professional mechanical engineer, together with Haji Abdul Kadier Sahib and Haji Awang Daud Awang Putera, two qualified directors, founded Serba Dinamik Sdn Bhd (SDSB). The company began with a staff of three in a small office in Bintulu, Sarawak, Malaysia, with the vision to build a successful business, despite the risks and uncertainties.
The company started with small oil and gas related projects, worth about RM5m a year, for manpower supply and mechanical engineering works (repairs and equipment maintenance) for the national oil company Petronas. Throughout the years, despite the numerous economic downturns and restricted financial backing, the directors nonetheless prevailed in achieving their goals and bringing the company to national attention.
Now 21 years on, and with a successful track record, Serba Dinamik Sdn Bhd offers integrated engineering services, such as fabrication, construction, repair and maintenance of rotating equipment, supply of technical training, materials and equipment, manpower and general labour. The group is an approved and certified DOSH boiler and unfired pressure vessel (UPV) repairer and maker. From an initial staff of three and an annual turnover of RM5m, the group now has around 1000 workers in various locations and six workshops and service centres in Malaysia equipped with highly specialised heavy machinery worth millions of RM.
The latest annual turnover stands at RM560m, testament to more than two decades of sound strategy incorporating operations across Malaysia, the Middle East, Indonesia and the United Kingdom.
“Think globally, act locally”
Serba Dinamik Group’s aim is to beat its global competitors. To achieve this, the group have invested heavily in training and certifying its workforce, creating a quality management system, establishing an occupational health and safety assessment system and enforcing an environmental management system as its standard operating procedure. The application of these standards means that Serba’s clients feel no need to look elsewhere.
Serba Dinamik, whose motto is “think globally, act locally,” is undergoing a corporate restructuring to strengthen its position as the MNC of preferred choice. The group has consolidated its capabilities as a specialist contractor in the inspection, repair and maintenance of rotating equipment and boiler/unfired pressure vessels, into an integrated energy solutions provider. The firm’s business reach covers South East Asia, the Middle East and the United Kingdom, with plans to expand to the CIS and Africa.
